New Director!

The biggest news by far this month is the hiring of Greene County's first paid employee, our new part-time Director. Jerry Besanson responded to our ad and interviewed with the hiring panel in March. Then, during April's meeting, the full group approved the hiring panel's recommendation and Jerry was selected as our prime candidate. Next up, was a second interview performed by the leadership of the Greater Charlottesville Affiliate who will be the ones actually paying and employing him. He passed the second interview with flying colors and was hired the very next day. Be sure to come out to June's meeting so you can meet and congratulate him in person.

Strawberry Festival

strawberryStanardsville United Methodist Church will be holding their 18th annual Strawberry Festival and Pancake Breakfast this year, a week earlier than usual, on May 31st. Greene Habitat will be there with an informational booth, our kiddie moon bounce and our "jail". We'll be working to raise awareness, raise some money and just have fun. Please stop by and say hi and be sure to check out our strawberry-themed craft items and our Habitat T-shirts.

June Spaghetti Dinner

spaghetti Our next Spaghetti Dinner will be held on June 14th from 5 to 7PM at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Volunteers are needed for this event, so please email or call us if you can help. Also, there's still plenty of months left in 2008 if you'd like your group to get involved! If you're a member of a Greene County church or organization, please contact us if you'd like to host or sponsor a dinner or other event.

April and May Spaghetti Dinners

Last month, our Spaghetti dinner at Stanardsville Baptist Church was a resounding success and brought in over $500. But then this month, Grace Episcopal Church upped the ante by bringing in $800! Grace was gracious enough to volunteer their social hall as well as most of the food and volunteers to host the dinner for us. Thanks to Grace and everyone who came out to help, donate food and eat!

June Meeting

Our next monthly meeting will be on June 2nd at 6:30pm. We'll be meeting in our usual spot at Stanardsville Baptist Church (Map). Come join us on the first Monday of each month to find out what we're up to and how you can help.

Shed Project

shed As we have grown as a chapter over the last few years, we have also begun to accumulate all of the normal signs, banners and other materials used by a fully functioning non-profit organization. These materials are currently being stored in sheds, garages and basements of folks in the chapter who would like to eventually get their space back. A project has been underway over the last 6 months to build a permanent storage solution for the chapter. This project has recently taken some important steps forward and we hope to receive official approval soon to proceed with construction.

FAST FACTS

Founded in 2000, the chapter is now in its 8th year.

Greene has built two homes so far in the county and is well on its way towards home number three.

The Greene chapter, while fully autonomous and capable of charting its own course, is a member of the Greater Charlottesville HFH Affiliate which provides guidance, support and 501-(C)(3) legal status.

Greene has two sister chapters in Louisa and Buckingham Counties. Madison County is supported by its own HFH affiliate.
